The beauty of a civil marriage ceremony, with Janette Butler-Grech as your celebrant is that your ceremony can be the way you want it, where you want it, when you want it, how you want it and aside from abiding by the legal requirements, say and include any ritual you want.
I recently conducted the poignant marriage ceremony for my dear nephew Ricky and his gorgeous bride Samantha. The venue was at Pokolbin in the fertile wine region of the Hunter Valley, NSW.
In the ceremony I specifically wrote for Ricky and Sam, reference was made to vineyards and wine, their nurturing and care; similar qualities and dedication needed for cherished and loving relationships, marriage and life.
This indeed was a family celebration, a deluxe occasion, with all the “bells and whistles”.
It involved family members to the max, in that the Bride was presented to be married by her dad. The cute Page Boy and pretty Flower Girl were nephew and niece to the couple. The Bridal Party were sibling and dearest friend. The Readers were close relatives and the Mums’ of the bride and groom welcomed their new daughter and new son into their families, symbolically offering them the combined wine, out of the Unity Wine Glass to drink.
Although this ceremony had traditional aspects, it was also a celebration reflecting the couple, their preferences and their family values.
Yes the beautiful bride wore blue and why not?
It was the colour she and her partner preferred. There was an added twist to this ceremony in that all guests were asked to dress predominately in white and beige; with the allowance made for men to wear black suits should they wish to do so.
So in actual fact Ricky and Sam’s marriage ceremony was all about them, all they held dear, all they preferred and a true celebration the way they wanted it.
As their celebrant, added to my delight in this honour given to me, I was humbled by the words of appreciation I was gifted.
