I have been reading the book #LadiesInBack” by Madeleine St John. What a delightful story, addressing life, work and culture in the 1950’s in our beautiful home, Australia.
There is a chapter where one of the characters in this book proposes marriage (my area, as a Marriage Celebrant). This got me thinking about the ideal #Proposal. Is there ever such a thing?
In my humble opinion, we are individuals, we communicate differently, we react uniquely, we love in our own way. Regardless of all of these qualities, I believe….
This indeed is a big step in a couple’s relationship and sometimes nerves kick in, consequently “The Question” doesn’t actually come out the way it was planned and rehearsed, nor at the proper time.
Rest assured you out there reading this. You are not the only one!
When I ask wedding couples about “The Proposal” it becomes a thoroughly entertaining conversation; progressing from, The Lead Up, The Delivery and The Response!
The consensus of most opinions relate to the following words definitely being said…
“I Love You, I Adore You, You Make Me Happy”, then developing onto……
“I would like to spend my life with you”. “We are made for each other, “It was meant to be”,
“We are so compatible” “We have the same life goals and values” and so forth…..
All the above seasoned with holding hands, embracing, displays of affection… kissing, cuddling, smiles…..
Not to mention the distractions as one searches for “The Ring”…..
Was it in this pocket?
Oh No, don’t tell me I’ve lost it…. No here it is, fumble, fumble. TaaDaah! I’m sure you can add to this from your experience.
Then the response, after the big SURPRISE…..
I’ll leave you to remember your own experience, or perhaps recalling the movies you have watched or romantic stories you have been told or read about.
